Developed from a year-long community-based art collaboration with The Raven Project’s Queer Coffee House, the second year MFA and advanced ensemble class of Dell'Arte International will present Checked-In: A Queer Cabaret. Tickets can be purchased on site for a suggested donation of $10. No one turned away for lack of funds.
The Raven Project is a resource center in Eureka, California for homeless and at-risk youth. Each week, Raven hosts Queer Coffee House (QCH), a gathering of queer youth. Checked-In: A Queer Cabaret will feature poetry, songs, and performances by members of QCH in celebration of empowerment and visibility of queer and transgender youth in Humboldt county.
Dell’Arte International is the North American Center for Theatre Training, Research, and Performance of the actor-creator and offers one of the only MFAs in North America in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre. Past community-based art partners include Game Over, a Survivor-Led organization working to end Sex Trafficking in Humboldt County. Making Headway Support Center for survivors of traumatic brain injury; Del Norte IPA and Hospice of Humboldt with "Exit 101," a performance about end-of-life choices, among many others. Dell'Arte community initiatives are supported by funds from the James Irvine Foundation and the California Arts Council.
